Soo joined Blue Dot Advocates in order to better align her career, values, and family with her top-notch, sophisticated legal skills.
Soo worked as a funds lawyer, with Sidley Austin in its International Funds Group and then at Jones Day in its Private Equity Group, advising both start-up and experienced fund managers to launch and scale their businesses. Her practice concentrated on the formation of a variety of private investment funds of all sizes, including private equity funds, venture capital funds, hedge funds, hybrid funds, and funds-of-funds. Soo also advised fund managers and investors from Asia, Europe, and the U.S. on capital raisings, side letter negotiations, and managed account arrangements.
As an associate, Soo found herself spending long hours servicing clients mainly pursuing profit first. She began to explore alternative ways she could use her legal skills for the greater purpose, and realized the importance of finding synergies between legal, strategic and social investment objectives. Wanting to help those pursuing triple bottom line results from their investments – not just post-profit philanthropy – Soo left Jones Day in early 2017 to continue educating herself on impact investing. Soon thereafter she joined Blue Dot Advocates, and we are lucky, pleased, and proud to allow her the space to pursue an impactful legal career here serving social enterprises, family offices, emerging impact fund managers, and NGOs. We recognize her desire and drive to truly maximize her potential for impact, and look forward to achieving many great things together.
Soo is a cum laude graduate of Duke University, earning her BA in Political Science in 2008, and she earned her J.D. at Cornell Law School in 2012. She is a member of the New York Bar and Phi Beta Kappa, resides in Hong Kong with her husband and two daughters, and among other things enjoys doing yoga with her family in gorgeous places. She is also fluent in Korean and English, intermediate conversational in Mandarin Chinese, and she is a Volunteer Consultant with Asia Value Advisors.
