Social Ventures Legal Handbook Now Available to Indian Entrepreneurs
Our Indian Network Partner, Pankaj Jain of Impact Law Ventures, recently oversaw the creation of a handbook focused on legal compliance for Indian start-ups and hybrid social entrepreneurial ventures. The handbook introduces founders to common legal hurdles and to professional resources to help overcome them.
The eleven-chapter guide was sponsored by the Khemka Foundation as part of the charitable trust’s 2012 Khemka Forum on Social Entrepreneurship, one of India’s largest gatherings of social entrepreneurs. Together with lawyers from another leading Indian law firm, Amarchand Mangaldas law firm and Suresh A. Shroff & Company, Mr. Jain volunteered time and legal resources to compile the handbook. The Khemka Foundation hopes that the handbook will help prepare budding social entrepreneurs to navigate India’s often-byzantine legal maze and that it will prove a useful resource in tackling some of India’s most difficult problems.
“We did realize that there is a huge vacuum out there for affordable access to a trusted and competent legal counsel for social entrepreneurs, there was also a persistent reinvention of the wheel wherein there was no aggregated form of knowledge inputs available for these questions that we kept hearing time and again,” Jain said.
The handbook is the first book of its kind in India and includes chapters on: choosing the appropriate corporate structure, raising capital, taxation, intellectual property, dispute resolution and agreement negotiation.
The legal handbook is available now on the Khemka Foundation site.
