Secretary of State cuts all online business filing fees to $1
The Internet has reduced the cost of many things – free email, a plethora of free content, free or cheap online services – to the point that we have come to expect things to be free, or nearly free. Now you can add the Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler’s Business & Licensing Division to the web’s growing list of free, or nearly free, things. Just missing Black Friday by a week, all online business filing fees will be $1 starting December 1st.
That’s right. Want to file a Periodic Report for that special corporate person in your life? Used to be $10, now it’s $1. Need to amend your Articles of Incorporation just in time for the holidays? Used to be $25, now it’s $1. Want to authorize your business based outside of Colorado to transact in Colorado in time for Christmas? Used to be $100, now it’s just $1.
You may want to fill your stockings with filings soon, as the Secretary of State will review this reduced fee policy on a monthly basis to make sure his office can meet its budgetary obligations. Secretary Gessler believes that reduced fees could save businesses $600,000 annually and bolster Colorado’s reputation as a low-fee state with great customer service for business.
