Renewable Choice Energy Powers 40th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival
For the 11th year in a row, our client Renewable Choice Energy will provide wind power and carbon offsets to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. The festival, which is celebrating its 40th year of bluegrass in Telluride, has long been committed to “sustainable festivation,” having switched to wind power in 2003 with help from Renewable Choice.
Planet Bluegrass, the parent company of the festival, has developed a reputation for leading voluntary environmental action. The company works to reduce energy consumption, emissions, and solid waste generation at all of its events. Particular emphasis is placed on encouraging its more than 10,000 annual attendees to practice sustainability while at the events and at home.
This year, the festival will purchase wind power in the form of renewable energy credits (RECs) and verified carbon emission reductions from Renewable Choice to offset 100 percent of the emissions created by the festival, including attendee and artist travel. This action will help prevent more than 2700 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere, the equivalent of removing 570 passenger vehicles from the road for an entire year.
“At Planet Bluegrass, we’ve been committed to reducing the effects of our festivals on the environment wherever possible and Renewable Choice has helped us understand and tackle our carbon impact along the way—it’s been a tremendous partnership,” said Steve Szymanski, Vice President of Planet Bluegrass.
